The Tale of Sandeep Saini and His World’s Highest Expedition for Mental Health Awareness

If there is one thing that is prevalent in almost all societies, then it would certainly be the taboo associated with mental health.

There is some (Sort of) pride in getting the hand fractured and showing it off to the friends (At least during childhood). Some people post pictures, after a major accident, on social media, again with pride. We can even find pride after getting beaten up in a fight, but not when life beats us up. There is no pride in the state of being hopeless, depressed, defeated, or mauled emotionally.

Once in a while, a rare event happens where someone comes out and speaks about how lonely they feel in life or how sad everything is for them. At least during a physical tragedy, the first thing that comes to mind is contacting the doctor. Obvious, right? But not so obvious when the injury is internal. People ridicule and make fun of anything that isn’t naked to the eyes. No one cares about the emotional gashes, not even the victim’s own family members.

It is during times like these when heroes arise, and here we are talking about one such man, Mr. Sandeep Saini.

A New Birth

He was born in Fatehpur, Sikar and brought up in Jaipur. After doing BCA, he finally asked himself what he wanted to do in life. His zeal for exploration and warmth in his heart led to life about which even he never thought about. Mountaineering!

He incepted his own adventure planning agency named Blue Monkeys and took a certification in the same field. But something was missing in his life, and it was then when he participated in the Marathon for Mental Awareness in Jaipur organised by Mindroot on the 6th of October, 2019. That was the beginning of his splendid journey with us. He volunteered for almost every single event organised by Mindroot after that and actively participated in them. He also didn’t leave a single stone unturned in spreading the message and vision of our platform.

The Milestone(s)

A true explorer’s journey never ends, and he continues to run in the path that looks impossible to the rest. Sandeep desired to do something that no one in India even thought about doing before him.

Until now, the highest expedition for Mental Health Awareness was for Mount Kilimanjaro, which is approx. 5,895 metres above sea level. Sandeep wanted to spread the message on a higher scale, and he decided to aim for Kang Yatse 2 in Ladakh, which is approx. 6,270 metres above sea level. He aims to represent Mindroot and its vision and reach the apex on the 10th of October this year on World Mental Health Day.

Climb for Mental Health Awareness

Climbing a mountain and struggling to come out of a mental illness is equally metaphorical. It isn’t easy in any way to first accept that you might have a problem and then to decide to seek help for it. To maintain the will and optimism in yourself and still sticking to seek happiness in everyday life feels misty, rough, and unattainable at times. That is why taking that one extra step is all that you need to focus on. And then, boom! You made it.

We congratulate Sandeep Saini and his pertinacious will to aim for the impossible, and we hope that he continues to spread Mindroot’s messaging all around the world. He aims to climb Mount Everest in a few years and all our wishes are with him.

Lastly, a hero can be anyone. Anyone who takes a step to help someone or even himself! So pat your back for making it every day and share with us what keeps your mental health in the right state or post about it on your social media page. It can be about a small act related to taking care of a plant, working out every day, or spending time with your family. Also, if you have a story to share or a message from your end, Mindroot would be happy to post that and spread the message on World Mental Health Day. Don’t forget to add the following hashtags.

#mentalhealthawareness #mindrootfoundation

Until then, take care.
