Yoga have its origin in ancient India. It is defined as specific\u00a0physical, mental, and\u00a0spiritual disciplines that are\u00a0practices\u00a0in\u00a0order to\u00a0establish a state of\u00a0permanent inner peace . The Yoga Sutras\u00a0define the technique as\u00a0follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yama (universal ethics),<\/li>\n<li>Niyama (individual ethics),<\/li>\n<li>Asana\u00a0(physical\u00a0poses),<\/li>\n<li>Pranayama (breath control),<\/li>\n<li>Pratyhara (control of the\u00a0senses),<\/li>\n<li>Dharana\u00a0(steadiness of mind),<\/li>\n<li>Dhyana (meditation), and<\/li>\n<li>Samadhi\u00a0(bliss).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The word Yoga means union of personal consciousness\u00a0with\u00a0cosmic one. Considering mental health, this union can be viewed as\u00a0union of\u00a0thought and affect as well as mind and body. Since last three\u00a0decades emerging\u00a0evidence are coming from scientific literature that Yoga\u00a0is effective in\u00a0various psychiatric disorder.<\/p>\n<h2>How it works ?<\/h2>\n<p>Most of the scientific research has shown that Yoga may have work via regulating HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary<br \/>\naxis) and\u00a0sympathetic system.\u00a0Yoga reduced the cortisol levels in blood which are\u00a0involved\u00a0in negative\u00a0emotions and other health problem like cardiovascular diseases.\u00a0Mindfulness\u00a0defined\u00a0as \u201cthe process of thinking and felling about oneself&#8221;. If we includes other in\u00a0this process then it is called as Mentalization. These\u00a0process\u00a0alter brain neurotransmitter\u00a0and receptors specially GABA, Serotonine, NE, DA in such a manner that it\u00a0decreases stress and anxiety symptoms. \u00a0These process also\u00a0alters the brain waves especially alpha and theta wave. \u00a0As\u00a0Mindfulness is an integral part of many Yoga\u00a0techniques. In long term mindfulness reduces the stress signalling molecules\u00a0and\u00a0increases\u00a0dopamine in amygdala. This in turn help in regulating emotions,\u00a0mood and anxiety.<\/p>\n<h2>Mental health condition showing effectiveness of \u00a0Yoga<\/h2>\n<p>Study have shown that Yoga is effective in\u00a0building positive health in healthy individual. Other study has shown that Yoga improves general health, improve physical health and sleep related problems, lowers stress and promote social function.
